Die Kunsthalle Basel und ihre Direktorin Elena Filipovic laden Euch ganz herzlich zur Vernissage von Yan Xings Ausstellung „Dangerous Afternoon“, mit anschliessendem Essen und Trinken im Hof, ein.
Für seine erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung in der Schweiz präsentiert der Künstler eine neu entwickelte Installation, die als fiktive Ausstellung eines fiktiven Kurators auftritt, dessen private Fantasie als libidinöse Grundstimmung in der Ausstellung mitschwingt. Die Installation, bestehend aus unterschiedlichen Komponenten wie Film, Fotografie, Objekte und Performance, liefert Indizien, die auf das Privatleben des fiktiven Kurators verweisen ohne es explizit zu erklären. Hier verbinden sich – wie in fast allen Arbeiten von Yan Xing – kunsthistorische Recherche, autobiografische Erzählungen, ästhetische Kritik und manchmal schiere Plauderei kunstvoll miteinander.
Die Ausstellung läuft vom 2. Juni bis 27. August 2017 und ist grosszügig unterstützt von der LUMA Foundation und Jackson Tang mit zusätzlicher Unterstützung der Davidoff Art Initiative und H2 Foundation for Arts and Education. Mehr Informationen findet Ihr hier:

Kunsthalle Basel and its director Elena Filipovic warmly invite you to the press preview and opening of Yan Xing's exhibition "Dangerous Afternoon," followed by a barbecue in the yard.
For his first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland, he will present a newly commissioned installation that acts as a fictive exhibition by a fictive curator whose fantasy life is the libidinal undercurrent to the project. The installation’s various components, including a film, photographs, performance, and other elements will conspire to convey the backstory of the fictive curator without necessarily explaining it explicitly. Like nearly all of Yan Xing’s oeuvre, this project is informed by a mix of art historical research, autobiographical narratives, aesthetic critique, and sheer confabulation.
