Über DJ Chilly E
Brooklyn, New York is the birthplace of Eric Wright, alias DJ Chilly E, where since the tender age of 6 when he used to secretly play with his parent’s stereo system, he knew he was destined for a life of music.
He originally jumped into the music scene as a rapper, and at age 15, he and his crew of 2 DJs and 3 MCs battled other neighborhood crews for money, beer, stereo equipment, or just bragging rights. He eventually started DJ-ing and began to polish his skills on the turntables.
After enlisting in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, at age 19 he found himself stationed at Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Germany. There he started ‘spinning’ at NCO clubs and private parties. He eventually left the army to pursue music full-time, and in 1993 he released his first ‘official’ mix-tape entitled “The Groove Line”, named after the first record he ever bought (by a group called “Heatwave”). Since then, over 20 volumes of the “Groove Line” have been released.
In 1997, he started working as a DJ for ‘Radio Sunshine Live’, and in March 1999, started his own weekly live R&B/Hip-Hop mix show called (what else?) “The Groove Line Radio Show”. In time, the “Groove Line” has become one of Germany’s hottest Black-Music radio shows, and Chilly E has become one of the most requested DJs in the Black-Music scene.
After taking a year-long pause from radio, DJ Chilly E was recruited in 2001 by Mr. Kai Kemper, the Marketing Manager of radio “BIG-FM” to begin a new radio show, and in 2002, “The Groove Night Radio Show” debuted, and Chilly E became the official Black-Music-DJ for radio ‘BIG-FM’. The show can be heard every Thursday from 8:45pm til midnite (Central European Time) worldwide via web-radio ( www.bigfm.de ). Due to the show’s enormous success, you can find “Groove Night Rado Show Parties” being booked almost every week in various locations throughout Germany.
DJ Chilly E has also supported various artists on their European tours, such as: R. Kelly, K-Ci & JoJo, Keith Sweat, Lords of the Underground, Ryan Leslie, DJ Unk, Franchise Boyz, Lil Jon, Fatman Scoop, Method Man & Redman, Horace Brown, RZA, Joe, DJ Kool, Truth Hurts, Usher, and BOOYA/Universal recording artist, A.K.-S.W.I.F.T. In addition to DJ-ing, Chilly E recently started his own record label, “Groove Line Records” which consists of different divisions to include R&B, Hip-Hop, and Party-Tracks.» mehr laden ...
