First of all we would very much love to thank each and every one of you that has come out to support us on this journey so far & help us create an environment that has been so beautiful, caring and open. You are the pulse of the party.
We are thrilled to start 2018 how we mean to continue throughout the year. With DJs that can move a party to its very foundations, DJs who are at the very pinnacle of their craft. We aim to celebrate music in its wider sense and its most touching sense. Music for the soul, the feet & the mind. Music to make us dance, music to empower us and music to feed our souls, music to kiss and get sexy to.
We kick off this holiest of Fridays with a heady and filthy array of funk, soul, disco, house and techno and then some more, with some of our faves in the form of the legendary DJ Spinna and 1 of the most consistently on point DJs, Joey Anderson. We also have a special surprise guest performer: Kalypso Bang.
DJ Spinna is something of an anomaly in music. A humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields. With a steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library and the willingness to pursue the full extents of his roots (funk, soul, r&b and jazz), foundation (hip hop) and future (electronic/dance music) without any restraints.
Referred to in some circles as Stevie Wonder’s personal DJ, Spinna’s catalogue would be a dream fantasy for most musos, having remixed the likes of Stevie Wonder, De La Soul, Mary J. Blige and collaborated with Eminem. He has been a part of hip hop royalty since forever, having also worked with the likes of Mos Def, Masta Ace, Pharoahe Monch, to Eric Roberson, N'dea Davenport, Mary Mary and many more; as well as releasing great original works covering the whole spectrum, including one of our favourite techno orientated records of last year. DJ Spinna is a great DJ too who fits into our philosophy of what makes a good set.
Joey Anderson has had a unique entry into music. A great DJ & producer, Joey came up as a house dancer which saw him travel the world, especially finding favour in Japan’s prolific house dancing scene. He was inspired by New York’s underground dance scene from the age of 13. DJs such as Diciple , DJ Dove, Chris Flowers, Derrick Andrews, Camacho & Basil would get Joey interested in DJing though it would take his long-time friend, collaborator and fellow dancer DJ Qu to truly push him deeper into the art form. Joey has gone on to release highly sought after records on Dekmantel, his very own Inimeg records, Latency, Deconstruct, Synchrophone, Avenue 66 and more. He has since been traveling the world as a DJ.
Rounding off the night will be a special performance by London’s very own Kalypso Bang who has graced some of the most interesting performance stages such as the infamous NYC Down Low at Glastonbury Festival's Block 9. Performance will kick off early into the night – we guarantee you it will be a beauty and encourage you to come by early.
As per usual we will then round off the line-up with sets as well on the night. We very much look forward to seeing you and to spreading the good good vibes with you.
Much love
Lerato & Kerstin (Lakuti & Tama Sumo)
