Wer Chili and the Whalekillers kennt, weiß dass sich die isländisch-österreichische Band keinem Genre zuordnen lässt. Soeben wird noch zu lauter Popmusik getanzt, und im nächsten Moment dröhnt eine atmosphärische Soundcollage aus den Verstärkern. Ihre Live-Performances sind intensiv und charismatisch. Melancholie und tanzbare Euphorie scheinen nur einen Augenblick voneinander getrennt, lösen sich mühelos ab und ziehen das Publikum in ihren Bann.
Nach der Hochglanzveröffentlichung ihres letzten Albums „Words on Tuesdays“ beim Leipziger Label "Velocity Sounds" spielten Chili and the Whalekillers von Februar bis August etliche Konzerte von Hamburg bis Wien. Diesen Herbst, nach Einbruch der Kälte und der November-Regenfälle macht sich die Band wieder auf den Weg und bespielt Bühnen in Deutschland und Österreich.
Bislang veröffentlichten Chili and the Whalekillers sechs Alben und spielten Konzerte in Österreich, Deutschland, Frankreich, Island und Großbritannien. 2014 gelangte ihre Single „TURN“ auf den dritten Platz der isländischen Radiocharts. Im Herbst 2015 begeisterte die Band im Rahmen einer Island-Tournee das Publikum beim Iceland Airwaves Festival in Reykjavík. Im Zuge der Veröffentlichung ihres aktuellen Albums „Words on Tuesdays“ spielten Chili and the Whalekillers eine ausgedehnte Tournee durch Deutschland und Österreich.

The songs should testify a struggle of ideas, feelings or affiliations divided by a slash „/“, just as so many biographies nowadays seemingly define themselves mostly by the slashes between the definitions. SKELETON SKIES is trying to look at the slash, trying to define things by letting them collide and look at the scratch marks, musically moving somewhere between the PrefabSprout-DavidBowie-TheCure-AtTheDriveIn-AztecCamera-PedroTheLion-RitaMitsouko, yet maybe landing mostly in the space between, creating nothing less or more than music and well if you insist on definition, then let’s call it indie/pop.
SKELETON SKIES started as a solo recording project by Frankfurt born, London bred and Berlin based multi-instrumentalist Jorma Ruben with the 2014 release „Times/Tides“.
By the time of the second release „Sleep/Sunrise“ the project had turned into a 5-piece live act, playing first concerts in and around Berlin.
The third EP „Work/Worth“ was released on the 20th of October 2016 as the last instalment in a trilogy of semi-autobiographical 4-Track EPs, witnessing the coming of age of an idée fixe, a music project built from top to bottom.
