ZEKE: “Ride With Zeke” has quickly become the mantra for music fans who have accepted the invitation brought on by Heckler Magazine when they said, “Welcome the new monsters of rock.” It’s no doubt true that West Coast punk / thrashers ZEKE are monsters. Ever since their very first gig at the Rock City in Seattle in 1993, people have had no choice but to pay attention. Their records will assault you, and their live show will batter you. ZEKE established a nasty disposition while cutting teeth on their own brash hardcore punk.
ZEKE formed in 1993 with an original lineup of Blind Marky Felchtone, Donny Paycheck, Mark Pierce, and Dizzy Lee Roth. The band’s first release was 1993’s West Seattle Acid Party, a single on Wrecking Ball Records, followed by the Holley 750 single on IFA Records. ZEKE then set out to bring their energetic recordings to the stage and established a more than formidable reputation as “the live band to beat” via concentrated regional touring. The self titled single Zeke was then released on Scooch Pooch Records and was followed by the 1995 release Super Sound Racing. ZEKE then hit the road again, unveiling a devastatingly high-octane live assault. The band was heralded as “Rock and Roll outlaws,” playing every conceivable venue that would have them.
In early 2000, ZEKE released Dirty Sanchez, which was recorded with Kurt Bloch of The Fastbacks. From the beginning quote of “Hey, he acting weird, it must be drugs!” to the last roar of the Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon,” Dirty Sanchez bludgeoned with tireless energy. Following the album’s release, bassist Mark Pierce left the band and was replaced by Jeff “The Kid” Matz.
Throughout the time that ZEKE called Epitaph home, they toured relentlessly. The band paired up with anyone and everyone who would have them, hitting the road with the likes of Jerry Cantrell
(Alice in Chains), All, Voodoo Glow Skulls, D.O.A., Supersuckers and even a few dates with Pearl Jam. The band toured the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia, spreading their rock while breaking all the rules. ZEKE played everything from stadiums with 50,000 people, to bars with 10 people, but the spirit remained the same; rock like this might be the last show ever.After leaving Epitaph and releasing 2003’s Live and Uncensored, ZEKE began writing new material and set out looking for a suitable label that they could not only feel at home with, but one that could handle their “balls to the wall” rock and roll and enjoy the band as fans first. A contract with Relapse was inked in October, 2003 and saw the band join an artist stable that are at once musically mated and touring compatible. ZEKE found their new home. ZEKE set the cruise control to “white hot” on their Relapse debut, ‘Til the Livin’ End. A relentless ride of rock and roll abandon, the album mixes punk nihilism with a hard hitting metal extravagance. It burns from start to finish, as super-charged guitars, electrifying leads and a raucous punk attitude race full-throttle down a highway to Hell. Thank the gods of rock and roll, you’ve just met your new favorite band.
Zeke has now reformed with a new lineup in 2016 and is currently working on a new ablum entitled “HELLBENDER” for release on Relapse records in early 2017, Look Out!!!
Adac Motörwelt: AD/AC Motörstory
Die Idee zu AD/AC Motörwelt wurde im Herbst 1987 geboren im Bierdunst der benebelten Gehirne von Marty und Harty, vermutlich entweder bei einer der Dachauer-Strassen-Übungsraumfeste, irgendwo beim Pattenauflegen oder beim Kicken mit den Mähdreschern, keiner kann sich mehr daran erinnern. Die wichtigste Frage, damals wie heute, "sag ma kennst du n Drummer? Zufällig kannten die beiden den Clarky ! Ja und was braucht eine richtige Rawk ´n´ Roll Band mehr? Git, Bass und Drums!
Marty, Harty und Clarky hatten vor AD/AC Motörwelt seit Ende der 70er schon in einigen Bands mitgedudelt: Land of Sex and Glory, Die Chauvis, Pussys, Die Strolche, APG,uvm ... Gleich Sylvester 87 war bereits der erste AD/AC Motörgig von bei einer der genialen Übungsraum-Parties und im Februar gleich der Zweite als Anheizer für In Cold Blood im Rigan Club (:-). In den nächsten drei Jahren folgten AD/AC Motörgigs auf Motörgigs vom Otti HC über die Kulturstation, zum Teil auch in Vierer-Besetzung mit verschiedenen Sängern, z.b. mit dem Novotny, oder dem Busi: beim 1. Comic-Fest mit Marty auf Krücken, mit zusammengeflickten und eingegipsten Hax´n - eine Mähdrescher Trainingsverletzung, die ihm so wirklich saublöderweise der Harty beim Training am China-Turm beigebracht hat -, dann in div. JUZ´n in ganz Süddeutschland / Östereich, bis nach Koblenz... Unvergesslich auch (erstaunlicherweise bei dem Schädel) die AD/AC Motörtour zusammen mit NoNoYesNo nach Turin, wo wir in einem besetzen Haus gegigt haben.
1989 kam Suppi zur Band, mit ihm hatte AD/AC Motörwelt einen Frontmann, der wirklich super zur Band passte. Es dauerte dann auch nicht lange bis General Winter die Idee eines Münchner Punk-Rock Samplers zur Wirklichkeit werden ließ: How We Drink Is How We Rock! Ein Meilenstein! Großartig! zu dem AD/AC Motörwelt nicht nur das Coverbild (Martys Wampe) sondern auch den AD/AC Motörkultrockklassiker "Let Your Hair Down" beigetragen hat. Mit dem Sampler wollten mehr Leute mehr von AD/AC Motörwelt hören und General Winter kam dann mit der Idee eine LP zu machen, sofern alles "Low Budget" bleiben würde. Low Budget war noch nie ein Problem für AD/AC Motörwelt und auch nicht für Chris Void, dem kongenialen Engineer und Mischer der legendären 1328Ler LP - eine Antwort auf Lemmys 1918 Schalli (was ist schon 1918 gegen 1328!), die 1990 in Chris Übungsraum im Lazarett in Oberföhring in einer Woche eingespielt und abgemischt wurde. Das Innersleeve der LP listet den Treibstoff für die Takes auf: August, Jimmy und eine Hand voll Pizzen, mehr war (ist) nicht nötig.
Damals waren auch all die legendären AD/AC Motörgigs der Band, in denen der Kulthit "Reign In Beer" vom Publikum immer sofort in die Tat umgesetzt wurde: wahre Bierduschen! Irgendwann meinte damals der Elektroniker vom Music Shop, "Hey wie macht ihr das? Alle paar Wochen kommt ihr mit einem abgefackelten Amp! Ich hab noch nie echt abgbrannte Amps gesehen".
Aber gerade zu diesem Zeitpunkt musste sich AD/AC Motörwelt leider vom Suppi trennen. Alle Pläne platzen, die geplante D´land-Tour musste abgesagt werden. Ein Jahr später verschlug es Harty in die USA (2 Jahre) und danach nach Berlin (5 Jahre). Bei jedem Fronturlaub von Harty wurde bisserl rum gejammt. Dann warf Clarky das Drummer-Handtuch, aber Marty hielt die Band-Idee hoch und am Leben. Martys andere Bandprojekte in diesert Zeit: Slutfreak, Born Bavarians, The Politicians (jaja!) zu denen kam 2000 Smarty (früher bei SixPäx) als Drummer dazu . 2001 hatte Harty die Berliner Schnauze voll und ging nach MUC zurück: AD/AC Motörwelt startete erneut mit Marty, Harty und Smarty durch, wie früher, in klassisc her 3er Besetzung: Git, Bass, Drums. Mehr braucht´s auch nicht für ordentlich auf die Ohren!
