18+ announces new Album - ‘COLLECT’ released May 20th

18+ have returned with a self-directed video for their brand new single ‘Drama’, taken from their forthcoming album COLLECT, out May 20th via Houndstooth.
Spanning over 13 tracks, COLLECT explores the duos aggressive evolution as musicians. Frequently radical and genre defying, together Justin and Samia have produced one of their most ambitious and powerful pieces of work to date. On COLLECT, the duo exploit the relationship of public vs private in a more invasive style, mimicked by the sampling of phone calls and personal field recordings intertwined between tracks.
First listen track ‘Drama’ shows an explosive return, with the pair’s drawling, haze-soaked vocal hooks and layered bridges of production; it’s distorted pop perfection and the result is sonically original, unlike anything else currently available.
Recorded between Berlin and Honolulu where Justin and Samia reside respectively, the album is the product of their autobiographical individual growth and the physical geographical gap between them. The band continue to use a two-person connection as an entrance point to talk about relationships which exist in situations of business, security, success, platonic and love.
18+ initially existed as anonymous pioneers of the underground for their distorted R&B beats, while surfacing for shows at unexpected places throughout the world only built more excitement for their identities to reveal - the Venice Biennale, London’s Corsica Studios, CTM Festival in Berlin, La Fleche D’Or in Paris and the Frieze Art Fair, to name a few, all hosted the band onstage. Following the success of their debut album TRUST in 2014, Justin and Samia’s profiles were thrown into public domain and charted critical acclaim and admirers from fans and critics alike.
TRUST had prime placement on Top Album Lists across the board including FACT, Dummy, i-D, Rolling Stone Germany, Clash and Pigeons & Planes to name a few. On TRUST, The Guardian said ‘it oozed sex and a glitchy sense of unease’ while DAZED proclaimed the band set a new standard with their ‘sparse post-internet aesthetic’. Dummy called TRUST a ‘game-changing debut’ while Interview Magazine said it was ‘dripping with continuous, sensually hazy beats driven by innuendo and noir’.
18+ released their free download “FORE” mixtape on Valentine’s Day this year, a 15 track pre-cursor to COLLECT which is available to download here.
