Berlin based Booka Shade are Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier.
Conceived in Frankfurt they moved to Berlin in 2002 and formed the now legendary dance label Get Physical Music with M.A.N.D.Y., Thomas ‘DJ T.’ Koch and Peter Hayo.
2005 their EP’s ‘Mandarine EP’ and ‘Body Language’ (the latter co-produced with M.A.N.D.Y.) launched Booka Shade into the stratosphere, swiftly followed by ‘In White Rooms’ and ‘Night Falls’, setting alight dance floors World-wide.
Sónar 2005 was the beginning of Booka Shade’s unrivalled live heritage, including being named 2010 Resident Advisor’s Top 5 Live Act in the World, opening for Depeche Mode, playing at Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, Montreux, headlining stages at Coachella, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter, Red Rocks and many sold-out live shows around the Globe including London´s Royal Festival Hall.
Remix credits include; Depeche Mode, Moby, Hot Chip, Kings of Leon, Woodkid, Hot Since 82 and many more. Their passion for classical music culminated in a collaboration with China’s legendary classical pianist, Lang Lang for a special one-off performance in Berlin.
Booka Shade were inducted into Pete Tong’s BBC Radio One Hall of Fame. They played both the ‘40 Years of Radio 1’ celebration with Annie Nightingale at the infamous Maida Vale studios, the ‘20 Years Essential Mix’ party, also mixing Pete Tong’s ‘All Gone Ibiza’ compilation album.
20 years,100’s of live shows, seven albums and dozens of EP’s later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, the band embody the spirit that drives electronic music and have set a precedent to which electronic music is held to today.
Booka Shade’s latest album ‘Cut The Strings’ takes them back to their dance floor roots with focused rhythms and layered soundscapes that are synonymous with the Booka Shade sound.
